Brand24 vs Mention

Brand24 is the better product today. It publishes pricing openly, ships blog content weekly, and serves an llms.txt, a pricing file for agents, and an MCP server. Mention sells one plan at about $599 a month through a sales call, has not published since April 2025, and exposes nothing to an agent. Pick Brand24 if you want a marketing dashboard with source coverage and a working API add-on. Pick neither if you want a per-call API or an agent that wakes when a mention lands.

Price

Brand24 lists five tiers. Individual is $199 a month on annual billing or $249 monthly. Team is $299 annual. Pro is $399. Business is $599. Enterprise starts at $1,499. API access is a paid add-on: the machine-readable pricing file says $99 a month and the pricing page says $149. Either way it requires the Business tier. The cheapest path to a Brand24 API is about $698 a month.

Mention shows a single Company plan. The price is rendered client-side and does not appear in the page source. Third-party trackers put it at about $599 a month on an annual contract. API access and historical data are unpriced add-ons. There is no self-serve signup for the main plan. The only CTA is "Get a demo."

Mention discontinued its Solo, Pro, and ProPlus self-serve tiers in July 2025. Its blog’s head-to-head pages still quote those old prices because the blog has not been updated since. Brand24’s "/blog/mention-alternatives/" quotes "Mention $599 a month."

Sources

Brand24 claims over 25 million sources across social media, news, blogs, forums, podcasts, newsletters, and review sites. Its platform pages cover Reddit, X, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and app-store reviews, but not LinkedIn, Bluesky, Discourse, Hacker News, GitHub, Stack Overflow, Mastodon, or Product Hunt. The llms.txt lists several of those as covered, but no landing pages exist for them.

Mention claims one billion sources. Its platform landing pages cover Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and the web. There are no pages for Reddit, LinkedIn, YouTube, or any developer source, despite the pricing page listing them as included. The source pages are about 800 words each, undated, and unchanged since 2021 to 2023.

Agent surface

Brand24 ships an llms.txt (33 KB, 583 lines), a pricing.md written for agents with a "How to use this document if you are an AI agent" section, an OpenAPI 3.1 spec, and an MCP server documented in a help-center article. The MCP server is not on the main domain and is not mentioned in the llms.txt. The API uses an X-Api-Key header with date ranges capped at 31 days and 500 rows per page.

Mention has none of this. No llms.txt, no MCP server, no OpenAPI spec, no machine-readable pricing. Its API marketing page was last modified in September 2020 and says "Request Access." The API documentation at dev.mention.com uses OAuth2 and covers alerts, mentions, statistics, and per-network metadata, but there is no OpenAPI file and the rate limits page did not render on 2026-09-10.

Neither product pushes to an agent when a mention lands. Both are dashboards first. Brand24’s API is aggregate-first: the main endpoints return project-level stats, sentiment, and AI summaries. Individual mention retrieval exists but requires a dashboard-created project and a 31-day query window. Mention’s API supports streaming mentions but is gated behind a sales process.

Freshness and trust

Brand24 published about 97 English blog posts in 2026 by September, roughly 8 a month, slowing from 20 in spring to 5 in summer. It refreshes comparison pages and stamps them with author names, "Updated" dates, and "Reviewed by" lines. It has 25 author pages with expertise tags, 63 case studies, and logos on the homepage. G2 lists it at 4.6 out of 5.

Mention published zero posts in 2026. Its most recent post is dated 2025-04-24. Its 58 head-to-head blog pages and 14 alternatives pages all carry 2025 in the title. It has 252 author archive pages but most are guest contributors. It claims 750,000 companies and one billion sources. Neither claim is dated or attributed.

Mention removed its publishing and engagement features in January 2026 and directs users to Agorapulse for those workflows. The pricing FAQ confirms this. Its homepage still advertises them.

Brand24 has 63 case studies in its sitemap. Mention has 46 customer stories including Ogilvy, Edelman, and McCann. Both serve four languages (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese). Brand24 publishes about 486 English blog posts total; Mention has 618 but has stopped producing them.

Who should pick which

Pick Brand24 if you want a working marketing dashboard with broad source coverage, weekly blog updates, agent-readable files, and a verified MCP server. Expect to pay at least $199 a month and about $698 a month if you need API access.

Pick Mention if you need its specific integrations, are comfortable with a sales-led purchase, and do not need API or agent access without negotiation.

Neither product sells by the call, meaning a single API request with a price and no subscription. Neither pushes to an agent. Neither has a free tier. Brand24’s cheapest plan starts at $199 a month annual with 12-hour refresh (brand24.com/prices/, 2026-09-10). Mention’s only plan is sales-led at about $599 a month (checkthat.ai, 2026-09-10).

The third option

discatch is a social listening API and alert system built for agents. It sells by the unit, not the seat. A standing catch costs one alert unit when it fires and one result unit per item delivered. A catch that fires nothing costs nothing. The free tier includes Hacker News alerts at one-hour intervals with no credit card.

Questions

Which is cheaper, Brand24 or Mention?

Brand24. Its Individual plan is $199 a month on annual billing. Mention’s only plan is about $599 a month, sold through a sales call. Neither has a free tier.

Does Brand24 have an MCP server?

Yes. It is documented in a help-center article and works with Claude via custom connectors. It is not on the main brand24.com domain and is not mentioned in the llms.txt file.

Does Mention have an MCP server?

No. Mention has no MCP server, no llms.txt, no OpenAPI spec, and no machine-readable pricing file as of 2026-09-10.

Can I get Brand24’s API without the Business plan?

No. API access is a paid add-on available only on the Business tier ($599 a month annual) or higher. The add-on itself costs $99 or $149 a month depending on which Brand24 page you read.

Is Mention’s blog still active?

No. The most recent post is from April 2025. Zero posts have been published in 2026 as of September 10.

Brand24 claims over 25 million. Mention claims one billion. Neither number is dated or independently verified. Brand24 has platform pages for 12 sources. Mention has pages for 5.

Does either push to an agent when a mention appears?

No. Both are dashboard-first products. Brand24 delivers alerts by email, Slack, and Teams. Mention delivers by email and Slack. Neither sends a webhook to an agent or fires a catch destination.

What does discatch change?

discatch is pre-launch. It plans API and MCP on every tier, sells by the unit, and pushes to an agent when a catch fires. The prices are placeholders.
